De plus en plus, l’ambiance se révèle comme une notion qui se forge en tant que champ spécifique de la recherche architecturale et urbanistique. Elle revalorise et place l’usager au sein d’une problématique centrée sur le lieu sans pour autant négliger ses dimensions spatiales et techniques. Mettant l’accent sur le vécu sensoriel de l’espace réel, la notion d’ambiance associe des signaux physiques émis par les diverses composantes du lieu aux conduites perceptives et comportementales des usagers en respect des caractéristiques de ces derniers et du contexte auquel ils appartiennent. La complexité et la variété des éléments formant cette association exigent qu’ils soient maîtrisés et leurs relations cernées en vue d’une meilleure compréhension et exploitation du phénomène dans la recherche, la pédagogie et la pratique de l’architecture et de l’urbain. La présente entreprise propose donc un modèle conceptuel pour la notion d’ambiance en vue de mieux l’asseoir scientifiquement. More and more, Ambience is shown as a notion which is building up as a particular field of the urban and architectural research. It gives more importance to the user and situated him inside a place centred problem without loosing the place spatial and technical aspects. Ambience emphasizes the sensorial living of a space and associates the physical signals emitted by the place various components to the user’s perceptual and behavioural pattern in respect of the users’ characteristics and their context. The complexity and variety of these association components requires that they should be well understood and their relationships well controlled in order to a better comprehension and exploitation of the Ambience in the fields of urban and architectural research, practice and design training. This investigation suggests a conceptual model for the Ambience which could be helpful to give it a good scientific basis.
