  Description Le but de cette étude est d’observer l’influence d’une préchloration sur l’élimination de la matière organique parcoagulation – floculation au sulfate d’aluminium.Sur des solutions synthétiques de substances humiques, la préoxydation pratiquée à fortes doses de chlore implique demettre en oeuvre une dose de coagulant plus élevée. De plus, le rendement d’élimination de la matière organique peutnotablement diminuer.L’effet promoteur d’éléments minéraux contenus dans les eaux n’améliore que légèrement les rendementsd’élimination.Une application du procédé combiné préchloration – floculation à une eau de surface algérienne, aboutit à des résultatssimilaires.La suppression de l’étape de préchloration pourrait permettre d’éliminer efficacement les substances humiques etlimiter la formation des THM après post –chloration. The aim of this study is to observe the effect of prechlorination on the removal of organic matter with alum. On thereconstituted waters of dissolving humic substances, great prechlorination dosages give a shift of the optimal dosage ofcoagulant. This preoxydation induced also a decrease of the efficiency of humic matter removal. The occurrence ofinorganic compounds in waters slightly improved the efficiency of alum flocculation. Similar results were obtainedwhen we carried out experiments of combination prechlorination – flocculation on an algerian surface water. Bestpercent of removal of organic matter and reduced levels of THM were observed simply by eliminating prechlorination.
